What did Charles II try to ban?
Without further context, I am making a guess here. During the latter part of his reign, a great many pamphlets were printed criticising the government and its policies. These were sold inexpensively in the streets and discussed widely in “coffeehouses” throughout London. Charles II tried to suppress both the publication of these pamphlets and the existence of the coffeehouses as disruptive to the peace of the kingdom – censorship, in essence.
