What if you computer is telling you that there is not enough free space to do Disk Defragmenter?
You have to go in and delete or compress your existing files. One of the best things to do first is to run “Disk Cleanup” under All Programs > Accessories > System tools of the “Start” menu. This will allow you to first get rid of files you are pretty sure you don’t need anyway. If you still can’t run Disk Defragmenter, I would suggeste next going to Add/Remove Programs and seeing if there are any old programs that you forgot you had and that you don’t want any more. You can compress your files in one of two ways: “zip” them using an appropriate utility (and then once you zip them, delete the original unzipped folders or files) OR right click on different folders, go to properties, then to the “Advanced” button (in the “attributes” section of the window) and then check the box by “compress contents to save disk space” If none of those things frees up enough space, you can go to the individual folders where you stored files and delete old versions of documents and other files that you feel like you don’t need any more. If you can’t spare any of them (or not enough to make a difference) then save them to flash drive, CD, or other storage media and then delete the original files from the hard drive.
