How do you trace a cell phones locations?

  • Can star 67 be traced back to a cell phone?

Dialing *67 (or equivalently 1167) in the US and Canada suppresses the display of your Caller ID information on the other person’s phone or Caller ID box. However, there are a variety of ways the other person can find out your number. In particular, if you call 911, a toll-free 800/888/877/866/855 number, or certain other special numbers, the called party will get your billing information, even if you suppress Caller ID display. If the other person has the call traced, your billing info and Caller ID info (usually the same, but not always) will be available. In fact, your Caller ID info still goes all the way to the local telephone switch on the far end, but with a flag marked “private” that is supposed to tell the far switch not to send the Caller ID info on to the end user. The flip side of *67 is *82 (or 1182), which enables display of your Caller ID info when you are calling from a line that is blocked by default.
